Two miners were killed and 20 others were injured in a mining accident at Revenue Virginius mine near the town of Ouray in Colorado on Sunday morning (November 17).
Reports say the local sheriff's office was alerted to the situation at around 7:20 a.m. Two miners were confirmed trapped underground, and a rescue mission was deployed by 3:20 p.m. However, they were confirmed dead by the afternoon.
Twenty other miners were taken to area hospitals for injuries, mostly related to inhalation of harmful gasses and chemicals, such as nitrogen dioxide and carbon dioxide. All but two have been treated and released. One was said to be in critical condition.
An explosion was reported to be the cause of the accident that trapped workers inside the mine.
