Campaigning ends in Egypt's presidential race

Supporters of army chief Abdel Fattah al-Sisi are out on the streets Friday in the final day of Egypt's presidential campaign, ahead of next week's vote.

Sisi enjoys backing from Egyptians worn down by political unrest since the uprising in 2011.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SISI SUPPORTER, MONA EID, SAYING:

"He must be president because he is the only one who can protect our country outside and inside and everywhere. He is the one who can protect Egypt - there is no one but him. He is Sisi."

The former army chief faces Hamdeen Sabahi, a leftist defeated by Mohamed Mursi in the 2012 election.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SABAHI SUPPORTERS, ZIZO ABDOU, SAYING:

"I think if there were real elections the stronger voice would be for Hamdeen Sabahi and he would overtake Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. However, in the current circumstances, we see that Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will arrive through false means."
