Thailand's king formally endorses coup leader Prayuth Chan-ocha as head of the military council which will run the country.

It's a significant formality in Thailand where the monarchy is the most important institution.

Prayuth seized power on May 22, saying the army would restore order after nearly seven months of sometimes deadly street demonstrations.

After the ceremony the army chief set no date for elections and warned force would be used to put down protests.
