BACKLASH OVER "STEALTHY FREEDOM" IN IRAN
The "Stealthy Freedoms of Iranian Women" movement which began last month and has seen thousands of Iranian women posting pictures online of themselves with their hair uncovered is facing a growing backlash. Iranian men are taking to this so called "Men`s Stealthy Freedoms" Facebook page poking fun at the initiative by posing for photos wearing sheets and scarves on their head or around their body. 
The original campaign has been ridiculed but it has also prompted more radical reactions from the more conservative sections of the Islamic Republic. Rival Facebook groups have been set up, including the Real Freedom of Iranian Women page, where some contributors remind women that it is compulsory to wear the hijab, others posts are openly threatening women who dare to be seen in public without the Islamic veil. 
An article on the website of Business Week magazine claims some Iranian web users are even trying to identify these women, and that a purpose built Facebook page has been started so members of the public can expose women who have appeared online without their hijab. 
There have also been demonstrations in Tehran where hundreds of people took part in one protest saying women who go against Islamic law should be arrested. Despite the resistance, both online and on the streets, the "My Stealthy Freedoms" campaign continues and now has support from over 378,000 web users from all over ... Go on reading on our web site.
