Death has come -
Tho' He rises not
In calm;
Nor calls He for any angel
For to grant my closing mind
Repose upon a breast-pair - my last illusion
Out of life and into death unspent -
Coupled with delusions -
Tho' none deprived of wish
Or want - my luckless
World of love and fairer flesh -
In all colours cast -
Drove to live in brain
And wonderment upon the screen -
Therein lay my way -
To watch alone the others' play
In search across their dermal plains;
But now prostrate beneath a shadow
Of the ne'er-to-be's,
I'm yours -
Yours who never was for woman -
Never serving purpose
‘Till the day when blood runs tepid
To the toll;
And as I fade upon
The unrelenting drones
Of Death,
He shapeth me
To squally storm
And nervy cloud
To be no more -
And ne'er avowed!
