Dr John Celes - Whither civilisation today?

A pick-pocket gets stripp'd, beaten by mob;
A child-lifter is lynch'd in broad-daylight;
When man's alone, people are keen to rob;
For anything, everything, people fight.

A bus gets stopp'd and some men's throat's are slit;
A driver's killed; the car's driven away;
A wife is dowsed by her husband and lit;
More and more people are becoming gay.

Who knows if 'tis consented sex or rape?
Who does not possess perversions of sex?
The West has problems; let not the East ape;
Our modern life is stressful and can vex.
Today, 'tis hard to live with sanity,
Our earth's just one stop to Eternity.
