You said you gave me everything
but it was never enough
and maybe you did
and maybe it just wasn't.
but i'm not completely to blame.
you tried to make me happy
but with every attempt
i glanced back
i turned around
and i watched the past
who gave me that past to turn to?
with so much sincerity trapped in your words
trapped in your promises,
the ones you're making now.
to make it right.
you finally try,
and from a lump of regret
that's stuck in your neck
your voice cracks
and you promise me everything
that i've always wanted you to promise.
but i feel like i'm the bad one.
i feel like i'm doing wrong
cause i know i'm hurting you.
because you've tried so hard
but the memories hang on
of the things you've done wrong
i want to forgive, better yet, forget.
the past is a noose that you've tied our relationship to.
