Last night I dreamed of monkeys
so dark and hairy
my own hair nearly stood on ends
last night i dreamed of monkeys
matured monkeys so many of them
crowding, sitting, lying all over my room
for one second, i thought they might tear me into pieces
last night i dreamed of monkeys
the hair so oily, thick and black
i could count them one by one
the monkeys crowding my room
as if they would jump on me
giving me the fright of my life
i closed my eyes confident that
the divinity in me would deliver me
out of this danger
i prayed some heartfelt verses
and true enough as i opened my eyes again
the monkeys were nowhere to be seen
the room in the order as if they had turned tail
not even one of them there
last night i dreamt of monkeys
those monkeys that i now long to see
monkeys with dark, oily, black hair
thick as the palm thistles on my bedroom broom
or could they be agents of hanuman
the hindu monkey god i have been so attracted to
listening to a fine voice artiste singing her praise
day and night to the god famed for his high IQ
tricks and all
i keep looking at the hanuman record cover

Last Night I Dreamed of Chickens
Last night I dreamed of chickens,
there were chickens everywhere,
they were standing on my stomach,
they were nesting in my hair,
they were pecking at my pillow,
they were hopping on my head,
they were ruffling up their feathers
as they raced about my bed.
They were on the chairs and tables,
they were on the chandeliers,
they were roosting in the corners,
they were clucking in my ears,
there were chickens, chickens, chickens
for as far as I could see...
when I woke today, I noticed
there were eggs on top of me.
