It would not be a violation of my will
If You were to take me now.
Just consume me; end this
Constant struggle to be
All that You want of me.
I fight, but weakly;
I strive, but feebly.

If You are the magnificent Power,
The Eternal, consuming Fire,
Just consume me. End this
Tug-of-war, when all
That I really want is to fall!
You call, but softly.
You beckon, but gently.

Bring power, bring might!
Bring whirlwind; the force of
Your will against mine!
Conquer, triumphantly! Master me,
Send me home changed
Into what I want, what You desire
Me to be. This is the shriek of my soul!

But instead, in that still, small,
Maddening Voice, You continue to whisper,
“Choose.”
