A Ukrainian military transport plane has been shot down in the eastern city of Luhansk by pro-Russian separatists, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry says.

Several people are reported dead, although the exact number is still unclear. A local TV station has quoted sources as saying that around 30 people have been killed.

Describing the rebels as terrorists, Ukranian officials said the separatists had deliberately targeted the aircraft.
