Paul Riley - If I Were an Artist

If I were an artist,
My subject would be
The time of day when the world
Sheds its light.
I’d caress my canvas with crimsons,
And vermillion, scarlet
and darker hues;
Of indigo, violet and subtle blues.
But I’m no painter; only words flow
From my palate.
