Masonry larger than me has fallen
And now reposes, clambered on by boys
On their way up, with the muted sprawling
Dignity that surviving work enjoys.
Around it walls which in four hundred years
Have risen one story and fallen two
Retain some majesty, and it appears
From a high turrets reconstructed view
That the rolling land has little changed
Since the Nevills proliferated here;
Although time and sorrow rearrange
A life, respectful love will persevere
And make a home a castle against all
The worlds disintegration and slow fall.
