Native American men
Have seven philosophies
That guides them through life
And through all eternity
The first is to the women
Treated with dignity and respect
For the woman brings forth life
She is as sacred as she can get
The second is to the children
Preparing to leave the nest
Knowledge to go forth in life
Teaching them to be the best
The third is to the family
Unity of all generations
The man is to be responsible
It’s part of their many traditions
The fourth is to the community
Creating a sense that they belong
Giving their time and talents
For community is very strong
The fifth is to the earth
Teaching children how to care
Plants, animals or humans
A source of all life breathing air
The sixth is to the creator
Praying each day for guidance
Guidance from the Great Spirit
Spirituality for instance
The seventh is to myself
What kind of man do I want to be?
When I become an elder
Can I truly give generously?
So this, my friends, is what
The Native American is striving for
Passed down from his ancestors
Those who have lived before!
