The men who built this City at rest forever lay
They worked hard for to support their wives and children and they earned their every pay
They are the unsung heroes and they lived it the hard way
And we owe them for the prosperity that we enjoy today.

The men who built this City were truly men apart
They may have lived through hard times but they were kind of heart
They often went without themselves for to help out a mate
The men who built this City a great asset to the State.

The men who built this City knew what mateship was about
And they always did support the mate who was all but down and out
And though they never received the credit the credit they are due
To loyalty and friendship they remained ever true.

And never in their honour the last post has been played
Though for our present prosperity the foundation by them laid
And their names are not written on the great wall of fame
They were the unsung heroes but true heroes just the same.

The men who built this City not honoured in song and rhyme
And they were never lauded as the heroes of their time
A monument or memorial to them we've yet to see
Yet 'twas they laid the foundation for our prosperity.
