Time stood still this summers day
I asked her the ultimate question
and offered her the key to my heart
she looked at me with a sad expression

Minutes passed but seemed like hours
as I waited for her to answer me
she looked me straight in the eye
and said I am sorry I cannot agree

Everything around me seemed to still
as I fought to make sense of her part
not a sound could be heard by anyone
nor even the beating of my heavy heart

I always thought our life was inevitable
that we would grow old together as one
but now she has told me it is not to be
my life feels over before it has begun
