What was it that attracted me to you?
Was it your corny jokes or your unique views?
Was it sincerity, a promise of friendship so true?
Or your winning smile that lifts me from the blue?

What was it that made me trust in you?
Was it your constant assurance that you’d see us through?
Was it your strong will and determination?
Or the way you stare at me whatever I say and do?

What was it that brought me to you?
Was it the will or curse of the heavens?
Was it our kharmic link transporting us in time?
Or your dreams echoing that I naively listened to?

What was it I believed in you?
Was it your sincere words, kind, and true?
Was it your honest and selfless intentions?
Or the courageous-underdog-but-a-real-hero in you?

What was it that dispelled the illusion of you?
Was it your real self unfolding?
Was it your rejection, your hurting treatment?
Or self-preservation, your escape from the world?

What was it...? Ah, it had all vanished.
In time, I will remember you with sadness
The shining star that disappeared from the heavens
Inspired many, energized, guided, shone, dimmed... gone.
