The triteness of saying it
Makes it no less true.
It’s only a matter of time
Before all of this is through.

But the question before us now,
Is, is the time left a utility?
Or is the use of it somehow
An exercise in futility?

Does anything that we do matter?
We’ll never know the ultimate impact.
Unless of course you accept the hereafter
Not as fiction, but as a matter of fact.

So why should we go through the motions?
Why should we endure the daily grind?
Why make the effort and exertion?
Aren’t we simply biding our time?

“Man created God in his Image”
So says an album cover quote.
I think we did out of primal need-
To believe that we had a vote.

To believe we control our destiny.
To believe that our endeavors are just.
To ignore the facts of the matter,
That in the end, we’re simply dust.
