Juan Olivarez - Flowers For Mom

Long ago, walking from school,
Along a country road.
I saw Lantana growing by a pool,
Their orange faces fairly glowed.

I picked a bunch, and off I went,
Happy as could be.
And joyfully my throat gave vent,
To a childhood melody.

Mom waited for me, and when she knew,
What I had in my hand,
Her eyes twinkled, and her smile grew,
It felt oh, so grand.

She put the Lantana, in a little vase,
Pleased as she could be.
Then bent down, and kissed my face,
Oh, sweet memory.
