i'll never see him again
it was the last thing i expected
at the time
he reminded me of my favourite poet
with soft dark facial hair and topaz eyes
the colour of my birthstone
shining bright in that young face
i was awed
i'd forgotten
how it feels
to be desired

of-course
i'm old enough to be his mother
