A beautiful home, situated on oceanfront property in Narragansett will have to be removed says a ruling made by the Rhode Island Supreme Court.

The upscale residence, which is valued at nearly 2 million dollars, overlooks the water in Point Judith. The problem with the pristine location however, is that the house sits on a park designated for public use.

The land belongs to the Rose Nulman Park Foundation, and is managed by family trustees who established the free and public Rose Nulman Park. A developer purchased several acres in the area in the 1980’s and hired an engineering firm to split the lots. Later in 2010 another engineering firm surveyed the land so building permits could be obtained.

Everything worked out until 2011, when it was discovered the home had erroneously been erected on park property. For the past few years, the fate of the residence has been up in the air.

Numerous board meetings and court dates eventually led to the final decision that the house needs to go altogether. A judge will decide how much time the developer will be given to either transport the building or tear it down.

The cost of moving the home is estimated to be anywhere from $300,000 to $400,000.
