Three Al Jazeera journalists who were in court today have been sentenced to seven years in jail.
A judge in Egypt found them guilty on charges including helping a so-called terrorist organisation by “publishing lies.”
The three include Australian journalist, Peter Greste, Al Jazeera’s Kenya-based correspondent and bureau chief Mohamed Fahmy and producer Baher Mohamed.
Australia’s foreign minister said she is “utterly shocked” by the verdict and added that the journalists are “devastated as you would expect.”
She says she expects Egypt to come under a “great deal of pressure” over the sentences.
