Where do the fighters of the south-east of Ukraine get their weapons from? This is a question for Europe and America, and, of course, for Kiev, which proved to be unable to defeat the militia of the southeast. Many say that it is Russia to blame as Russia supposedly reached a helping hand to the resistance movement that the West declared separatist. However, it is also possible that Ukraine should watch its own weapons instead.
Andrei Krasov, member of the Duma Committee on Defense
"Let's compare the weapons of the militias and of the Russian army. The Russian army has perfect equipment, small arms, including night vision devices, state-of-the-art air defense weapons. What do the militia have? This is the equipment and military hardware that they seized from the Ukrainian armed forces. Of course, the Ukrainian side is ashamed to admit that, because such a strong structure - not only the armed forces, but also security services - have to deal with very strong resistance from militia fighters.
Americans and our "non-colleagues" in Europe can say anything they want, but let's take a look at Syria, for example. What kind of weapons does the Syrian opposition have? Of course, they have the weapons that the U.S. Army and NATO have.
In Ukraine, Donbass self-defense forces use old weapons and hunting rifles. It is utter nonsense to say that it is Russia that delivers these weapons to them. Naturally, Ukrainian officials do not want to see that, nor do they want to recognize the fact that the militias seized munitions from the troops."
