Supporters of Indonesian presidential candidate Joko Widodo celebrate an election victory

Just hours after voting closed, the candidate, also known as Jokowi, said quick counts of more than 90 percent of the votes showed that he would be the next president of the world's third largest democracy.

(SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Indonesia) PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE, JOKO WIDODO, SAYING:

"Our victory today is not about Jokowi, it's not about the political party but it is a victory of the people."

But across town, supporters of Indonesia's other presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto, were also celebrating, as the former General declared that he was the winner of the election.

(SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Indonesia) PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE PRABOWO SUBIANTO SAYING:

"The candidates team number one, Prabowo-Hatta, have received the support and mandate from the people of Indonesia."

Voters will have to wait about two weeks before the official result is announced.
