Indonesians awake to the news that they have a new president.

Jakarta governor Joko Widodo --known as Jokowi -- was declared the winner of the election on Tuesday. His common touch has won him huge support, gaining nearly 8.5 million votes.

He made a dramatic entrance ahead of his victory speech.

(SOUNDBITE) (Bahasa Indonesia) INDONESIA PRESIDENT-ELECT, JOKO WIDODO, SAYING:

"This victory is a victory for all the people of Indonesia."

But it's a victory that comes not without problems.

The losing candidate, former general Prabowo Subianto refused to conceed defeat.

As Jokowi's victory looked increasingly certain, Probowo claimed widespread cheating and accused the elections commission of not investigating the allegations properly.
