Lightning is one of those things that nobody really expects to physically encounter in their lifetime, but unfortunately far too many people and animals have become its victims.

On July 14, 45 head of cattle in Montana were killed as a result of lightning. Jean Taylor owns the ranch where the animals were killed.

She noted there were thunderstorms and lightning late that night but was unaware of what had happened until the next morning when her rancher found the calves, cows and even a prized bull bunched together under several small trees.

According to Taylor, now they’re only left with 11 cows.

Darby, Montana Marshal Larry Rose remarked “It was disgusting. I felt so sorry. It was unbelievable to see that many cows piled up in one bunch. It was a tremendous loss."

Lightning has been wreaking havoc on many lives this year.

Earlier in July, a man in Arvada, Colorado, Chad Greenlees, had been in his garage filming a storm when suddenly a lightning bolt hit his neighborhood. Greenlees’ yell of pain made it very clear he had been struck. Thankfully he survived.
