Police in Detroit are investigating the fatal shooting of an 8-year-old boy who was sleeping in his bed. The child has been identified as Jakari Pearson.

According to police, the boy was sleeping in his upstairs bedroom when a bullet flew though the window and struck him in the chest. Jakari’s mother was home at the time of the shooting.
She was struck by another bullet. First responders arrived at the home after the shots rang out. Both mother and son were transported to the hospital.
Jakari was pronounced dead upon arrival. His mom remains in the hospital, but her condition is not listed.
Investigators think a man who is now in custody walked to the back of the home with a rifle and began firing. The rounds went through exterior bricks and interior walls before striking the victims.
