Ukrainian soldiers are preparing to move in on the rebel stronghold of Donetsk.
Kyiv has been squeezing positions in the east of the country, as clashes continue between its forces and separatist rebels.
In the Kalininsky district of Donetsk, people have been assessing the aftermath of a night of what are claimed to have been Ukrainian air strikes.
“There were two strikes by aeroplanes. This is the first strike, the second one is on the other side. Completely bombed,” said Sergei Ryaboshenko, a security guard.
But Kyiv is denying any involvement in the attacks, saying none of its planes are bombing cities.
Meanwhile, Western leaders are accusing Russia of building up forces along the border – in what some fear could mean a possible intervention.
Russia has repeatedly denied that it has such intentions.
