Indian Peafowl lays eggs on roof-top of school in New Delhi - the urban pheasants of New Delhi city!
In an unusual urban adaptation, this Indian Peafowl has laid its eggs on the third floor roof-top ledge of a school building in New Delhi, India. As a wild member of the Pheasant family, it is most unusual to see such behaviour,as Peafowl are essentially ground nesters like all the other members of the pheasant family.
Seeing the urban pressure around it, this Peahen decided to nest on this building in Vasant Vihar instead of opting to nest on the Delhi Ridge forest nearby given the presence of wild dogs and jackals that could easily eat up her brood of chicks or even the eggs. Even human beings could well collect the eggs and eat them, so this is a smart peahen at work to be taking into account the urban ills of modern India, and still trying to survive!
One can even hear the school kids squealing in the backdrop!
