Working delicately in the field, atop a banyan Ficus leaf, a wildlife worker cuts open a soft python egg pouch that was not able to open on its own, in order to release the young python snake within, and give it a chance at life. This high stakes drama takes place within Kaziranga National Park, in a top secret location where a python mother laid her eggs within the bough of a fallen tree trunk. Shortly after, a new-born python sizes up the world around him.

The Pythonidae, commonly known simply as pythons, from the Greek word python , are a family of nonvenomous (though see the section "Toxins" below) snakes found in Africa, Asia and Australia. Among its members are some of the largest snakes in the world. Eight genera and 26 species are currently recognized.
