Drive with us on this virtual road trip from to Dochula Pass in Bhutan. The convoy of the Chief of Army Staff can be seen passing by. He seemed to be heading to his village near Punakha.

Goongloen Gongma (Major General) Batoo Tshering, DYG, DW, DT, DK, is the current Chief Operations Officer of the Royal Bhutan Army (COO). He succeeded the outgoing chief, Goongloen Gongma (Lieutenant General) Lam Dorji on 1 November 2005.

Tshering underwent training at Indian Military Academy and got commissioned into the Royal Bhutan Army in November 1971. Thereafter, he was attached with the Indian Army and underwent Young Officers Course, Commando Course, Intelligence Staff Officers' Course, Junior Command Course, Senior Command Course in various schools of instruction in India. He is also a graduate of the prestigious Defense Services Staff College, Wellington, Tamil Nadu.

As one gets closer to the top of Dochula pass, the north face side shows patches of snow along the road.

The forests one pass through are protected and if one is lucky, you can view a rare Red Panda, Flying Squirrel or even a leopard along this forested high altitude route.

We pass a few smaller cars with carriers on their roofs and small vans on the road with the setting sun visible between the cover of the trees and wide slopes on either side of the road.

A range of hills are visible at a comparatively close distance. The forests include oak, spruce, fir and alder (Alnus nepalensis) or Utees.

One can see a few landslide areas with small plants and shrubs creating a cover over the rocky slope reclaiming the land and hillside for greenery to flourish and grow.

We pass a small water powered shrine with many prayer flags and tsa tsa cones put by relatives and family members as a memory when someone close dies.

Later on we can see patches of snow mildly covering the hillsides.
