Resident doctors of the Vardhman Mahavir Medical College (VMMC) of Safdarjung Hospital and University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS) have gone on strike to protest against the alleged highhandedness of police and administration against junior doctors in Kanpur.
The out-patient department (OPD), laboratories, ward and non-clinical services will remain suspended in the hospitals, agitating doctors said. Only the emergency services will be operational, they added. Resident doctors of AIIMS, Lady Hardinge Medical College, Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital and Maulana Azad Medical College will join the strike at a later stage.
The Indian Medical Association has also called for a strike.
Expressing solidarity with the doctors on strike in Uttar Pradesh, and demanding action against MLA Irfan Solanki and suspension of SSP Yashashvi Yadav, resident doctors of AIIMS along with the Members of the Faculty Association of AIIMS, Students Union and Society of Young Scientists took out a candle-light vigil.
Doctors of all medical colleges across Delhi also observed a 'black badge day' as a gesture to support the ongoing strike by the doctors in Kanpur and all other medical colleges in Uttar Pradesh.
