The traditional attire of a Manipuri bridegroom consists of punyat (kurta), pheijom (dhoti), innaphi (cloth wrapped around the upper part of the body) and kokyet(turban) all of pure white cotton. The main attraction is the kokyet which is woven on looms and then thickly starched. The golden silk borders are woven by skilled weavers seperately and later stitched to the starched cloth. Earlier only grooms of royal and high class families can wear kokyets with golden borders.

The kokyet is then prepared by a skilled Bor sennaba (person who stays with the groom throughout the wedding and help him through the rituals).
