The local names for this flower in Garhwal and Kumaon are Kupheru, Jhulu and Kapas.

The altitudinal range for this flower is 1200-2400 meters.

It flowers in the months of March through June.

It is a common plant of open grassy slopes and thinly-forested pine knolls. The daisy-like flower-head is generally white in colour and lightly tinged with pink; always grows solitarily on a long cottony leafless stem borne high above the leaves, which are wooly and white in colour. The cotton obtained by the leaves is used by the people of Jaunsar in Garhwal to make coarse cloth or bags.
