Popularly known as the Howrah Bridge, Rabindra Setu is a suspension type balanced cantilever bridge that spans the Ganges Hooghly River in West Bengal, India. It is a famous icon of the state and the capital city Kolkatta. Rabindra Setu became the fourth cantilever bridge of its kind in the world, since it was commissioned in February 1943. It was renamed from Howrah bridge to Rabindra Setu in the year 1965, in honour of the country's first Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindra Nath Tagore.
