A court in Japan has ruled that the Fukushima nuclear plant Tepco was responsible for a woman's suicide in a landmark case that could set a precedent for other claims against the company.

Mikio Watanabe filed a civil suit against TEPCO after his wife committed suicide by setting herself on fire. She became deeply depressed after the disaster forced her from her home which was just 30 miles from the nuclear plant.

After the ruling Watanabe said he and his family are happy with the outcome

"We, the people and families who have suffered through this, can rest a little better now. I think Hamako's spirit can finally rest in peace. I want to tell her to rest in peace when I get back home."

Tepco has settled dozens of other disaster related deaths out of court.

The company has been ordered to pay Watanabe about $472,000 in damages.
