Dyson has unveiled its very first robotic vacuum. Following a teaser trailer that had home appliance fans speculating what it could be, the business is happily showcasing the 360 Eye.

It has a 360-degree camera that scans the room at a 45 degree angle. Over two dozen photos are taken per second and those pictures act as a map to help the vacuum maneuver around the room.

At the start of the cleaning journey, the device undocks, all on its own, from the charging station. The vacuum then finds the center of the room and begins spiraling outward. It’s programmed to clean 10 square feet before moving to a new patch of dirty floor.

The company’s founder Sir James Dyson remarked “Accurate navigation is the key to cleaning properly. I don’t just mean in coverage, but in terms of not going over the same spot twice, because if you do that you’re wasting the battery’s power.”

With help from infrared sensors, the vacuum stays away from furniture, people and pets to avoid a collision. The Eye has a specialized digital motor that Dyson claims has about 20 times the force of robotic vacuum competitors.

The Eye will go on sale next Spring.
