A shallow grave in a town north of Baghdad.

At least 15 bodies have been discovered here in Sulaiman Bek.

This mass burial site was found by Iraqi Kurdish forces and Shi'ite militiamen after retaking the town from the Islamic State.

These bodies are believed to be Shi'ite truck drivers, kidnapped three months ago by the IS.

Each of the men had been shot in the head.

Volunteers working with the victims' families and local police are excavating the remains.

IS fighters launched a major offensive in June, overrunning swathes of Iraq and Syria and leaving a path of bloodshed in its wake.
