Mali is one of the poorest countries in the world and 60 percent of the population can't read or write. It's also a very young country, with around 48 percent of the population under 14. For a variety of reasons, many children miss the opportunity to attend school.
The Speed Schools program - partly funded by the Norwegian Stromme Foundation - equips out-of-school children with the basic education and skills needed to pass public school entrance exams and enter the formal school system.
