A hat trick for unionists in Scotland.
Clackmannanshire was the earliest Scottish local authority to declare, "No" -- rejecting leaving the UK.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) CHIEF COUNTING OFFICER, MARIE PITCAITHLY, GIVING RESULTS FOR CLACKMANNANSHIRE SAYING:
"The local authority in question is Clackmannanshire. The number of ballot papers counted 35,410. The turnout was 88.6 percent. The number of 'Yes' votes: 16,350. The number of 'No' votes: 19,036 and there were 24 rejected papers. Thank you very much.
Voters in the Western Isles, and Orkney also voted against independence.
There were cheers and groans as Scots agonised over the results.
Many in the "No" camp had feared the "Yes" vote would be stronger in Clackmannanshire.
