Even though environmentalists regard Panama's commitment in the UN Climate Change Summit as positive they demand that current regulations addressing the problem be strengthened. Previously existing tools, such as environmental impact studies, have not prevented the loss of 471 square kilometers of forest land each year during the last decade.
