A 200-year-old shopping mall in Providence has been renovated to house 38 micro-apartments.
The Providence Arcade in Rhode Island is considered to be America's first indoor shopping mall.
In 2008, the nearly 200-year-old building closed after being unable to find enough commercial renters to fill all three floors.
A $7 million overhaul completed in 2013 turned the second and third floors of the building micro-apartments. The first floor retains its original use as a retail space for various shops.
These apartments are part of the continuing micro-home craze that has become quite popular in America in recent years.
There are 38 units available for rent. They measure between 225 and 300 square feet and include one bedroom, a kitchen, a bathroom and built-in storage. Rent starts at $550 a month.
The building also features a game room and a laundry machine for residents.
Bay windows have been built enclosing the first floor shops so any sounds won't be heard by residents.
The micro-apartments are meant to appeal to the younger generation, namely recent college grads and young professionals.
Others interested in the apartments include the mall’s workers and homeowners looking for a second residence when visiting.
Currently, there's a wait-list for future tenants.
