On Sunday afternoon, a transport truck got stuck on train tracks in Mer Rouge, Louisiana. What followed was a terrifying wreck.
While the truck driver was attempting to move the truck, a train came barreling down the tracks. The operator was able to get out of the rig in perfect timing, as the train plowed right into the trailer.
More than 12 train cars and two engines were involved in the accident. Fortunately no fatalities were reported and everyone who was involved in the wreck is said to be in stable condition.
The crash did, however, cause some panic. One of the affected train cars was leaking liquid argon, which is potentially deadly if inhaled for long periods of time.
Initially, nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution but the residents have since been allowed to return to their houses. The crossing may need improvements in the future.
One local woman pointed out its too low for trucks to be passing over. Mer Rouge Police Chief Mitch Stephens commented “We've had three fatalities down here at this other crossing and this is the second 18 wheeler crash we have had right here.”
