South African Olympic and Paralympic track star Oscar Pistorius, 27, has been jailed for five years for shooting dead his model girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria in February 2013.
In September, the double-amputee was cleared of murder but convicted of “culpable homicide” – South Africa’s equivalent of manslaughter – in one of the most sensational trials in the country’s
history.
Judge Thokozile Masipa found that prosecutors failed to prove his intent to kill – when he fired four rounds through the door of a toilet cubicle – killing the 29-year-old law graduate and reality TV star.
She did find him negligent, however.
Pistorius has always claimed he thought an intruder was lurking behind the door.
