Dilantha Gunawardana - A Rubber Plantation

Two lovers stroll
Amidst the soothing tranquility
Of a rubber plantation
Shielded from the scorching sun
By lattices of leafy jade
A whistling mistral
Caressing their sun-tanned veneer
As they walk hand-in-hand
A gentle perpetuating hold of the palms
That ripples to the heart
In subtle waves of ecstasy
Even the blades of leaves rustling
In whispers of fond affection
To serenade a pair of foraying souls
As a collage of nostalgia
Plagues the abysses of the wandering mind
Their first picnic under the shade
Of the watchful dryads
The first kiss that lingered
Like the sun on a summer solstice
Their first dance
To the symphonic orchestral wind
Oh the beauty of a rubber plantation
As she bestows on lovers
An idyllic sanctuary
To etch on the murals of the heart
Mementos for life
