On the weekend of mid-January of each year, more than 300 Valencian communities celebrate the Feast of San Antonio which is considered as the patron saint of animals. Each community with its own tradition but always with some kind of fire rituals and of course with some kind of animal exploitation, usually bareback horse races and several horse subjugation shows.

But the most famous is held in the town Vilanova de Alcolea where they combine the fire ritual with the commemoration of the saint patron of the animals by forcing dozens of horses into bonfires.
How typical of humans, to invent an animals’ patron and then celebrate his day by abusing them.
