My darling.
The twilight shadows will soon fall,
I hear the bugle's shrill call,
And my thoughts are meandering far,
To the village where you are.
My heart has no song,
And the night seems dreary and long.
Then as I view your life from afar,
Lo - I see you in each heavenly star.

When the rockets awaken the dawn,
And the quiet, starry night is gone,
Though in a land many miles apart,
A battle with the enemy will start.
My mind and heart are filled with dread,
Whom can say what lie ahead?
I think of you as I prepare to depart,
Forever - I will hold you in my heart.
