Joseph T. Renaldi - Friendship Must Be Earned

What a pathetic place this world would become
If there were not such a thing as friendship?
Friends come in different races, color, or creed,
And form a trustworthy union that never bends,
To offer us comfort and kindness in time of need,
To shield us from disappointments and sorrows life sends.
No matter how wealthy or successful we ever become,
No fortune can ever begin
To pay for a smile or touch of the hand
From a gentle and loyal old-time friend.
Though materialistic items can be readily purchased,
Down through the years I have learned
That money can not purchase a true friend,
For sincere friendship has to be earned.
