Sonja Broderick - Snow in April

An optimistic change of wardrobe slows,
April snow has returned.
A vagabond summer had prompted
stacks of sweaters bound for top shelves,
dragged down again for the chill
that crept under my skin today.
Anathaema of hail and sleet
batters the wishful glass,
my condensed breath opaques the pane.
A finger touch drops fat tears
that streak an open light to the black sky.
Lost, lazy days of summer in the park
seem now a million years away.
