Tom Prato - Lord of the Fishes

Who would have thought that they,
Launching out into the deep that day,
Would have caught such a catch amazing
Under an afternoon sun that was blazing?
Beyond belief, beyond measure,
Was the immensity of that silvery treasure.

Did their voices tremble, did their hands shake,
When their nets struggled and started to break?
What did they imagine? what did they think,
When their boats staggered and began to sink?
Who was this in the boat with them?
Rabbi, Master? or God Himself?
This was the Creator of earth and sea,
The Lord from heaven, the Almighty!

With divine conviction piercing his heart,
Peter fell down and cried, 'Lord, depart
From me, for I am a sinful man.'
He realised the truth [as rarely we can]
That an unbelieving heart dishonors the Lord,
Though he acted seemingly upon His word.

With eyes open and hearts on fire
They left their business, the men on hire,
Father Zebedee, the two boats, the broken nets,
By the side of the Lake Gennasaret;
Forsaking even the blessing glorious,
To follow the Lord-of-the-fishes victorious.
