Ted Sheridan - Up Close And Impersonal

The night was black with danger
Even the stars were hiding.....
I was crawling on the ground
Wet with fear and shivering
with the stark cold reality
.....in at any given moment
my life could be transferred
to an even darker place than this Hell
Without a sound or warning
I found myself face to face
.....eye to bloody eye
with an armed enemy
his face painted black like death
The barrel of his weapon readied
Just one twitch from his index finger
would be all it required
to blow me away.....
Staring into my fixed and fearful gaze
he saw an inexperienced boy
looking back at him
and he hesitated......
I pulled the trigger____
Closing his lifeless eyes
I moved on___
